SUPERB! Non-Excavated Georgia State Seal Stamped Brass Hat Insignia
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fantastic piece from a well known collection. This piece came from the collection of David & Celeste Topper who wrote the book entitled "Civil War Relics from Georgia". It is like the insignia illustrated on age 289 of the book by O'Donnell & Campbell, Army Military Headgear Insignia. They state how these were worn by Georgia troops and they add how they were best known as being worn by the Georgia Hussars. It is made of stamped brass that depicts the beautiful Georgia state seal. The state seal has the pillars and arches with the soldier between the pillars. Along the arch it proudly reads "CONSTITUTION" and around the pillars it has the "WISDOM, JUSTICE, MODERATION". It has a large eagle perched on the top of the arch. On the reverse of the stamped brass it has three of the four original straight brass attachment prongs intact. It measures 2-3/4th inches by 2 inches in overall size. As you can see, it is in superb non-excavated condition.
