Sherman's Atlanta Campaign Recovered Civil War U.S. Cartridge Box Plate
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a nice authentic excavated original Civil War boxplate from a soldier's cartridge box. This is the plate that went on the outer flap not only for decoration but to help keep the flap closed. It has the crystal clear "' US" letters on the front with a very pleasing brownish patina all over. Both of the two original iron loops are still intact on the back and it has a good original lead. The verbal history that accompanied the plate is that it was recovered in Kennesaw, Georgia in the early 1960's. This was the location of one of the main battles before General Sherman took Atlanta. It is a fine displaying piece of Civil War history!
