Dug Confederate Infantry "Lined I" Coat Button CS172 with Uniform Section
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a dug original Confederate coat size Infantry uniform button. This is the style referred to by collectors as the "Lined I" because on the inside of the block "I" for infantry on the front is small lines. This one has a dark almost black patina. It has the original back and shank intact and has some of the correct Civil War "SUPERIOR QUALITY" marked back. They left the maker's name off of the back so it could be sold by any retailer without advertising for the actual maker. The back has some chips out but displays well. What makes this one so special is that it is accompanied by a small piece of the original uniform. It is rare that the ground conditions were perfect enough to preserve the cloth like this. This is the style listed as CS172 in Albert's book and CSI203a3 in Tice's button book. It comes in a riker style case for display. This is a neat original Civil War Confederate Infantry Button with some of the original uniform cloth!
