This is a nice encampment badge from the Department of Kansas Ladies of the G.A.R. The Grand Army of the Republic was the veteran's organization made up of Union veterans of the Civil War. The top bar is celluloid with the word "Delegate" and the original pin on the back. The ribbon is red with gold lettering and two crossed flags, the lettering "32nd Annual Encampment Dept. of Kansas Ladies of the G.A.R. Chanute, Kans. May 21-22-23, 1918". The celluloid below the ribbon has the seal of the G.A.R. This is a beautiful designed piece from the collection of noted collector Don Limpert (1927-2022). Don Limpert was a long-time collector of memorabilia from the veterans of the Civil War with an emphasis on the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union veterans of the Civil War organization. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He purchased the building in 2012, and the building became the Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum. After his passing in 2022, his collection was sold and now is your chance to own a piece of that astounding collection.
