WONDERFUL! Authentic Confederate Soldier's Uniform From Georgia

WOW! This one has the look and I saw it years ago when it was still in the family. 20 or 25 years ago I was set-up at the Civil War show in Charleston, South Carolina. This nice family comes in with a bag and lays it on the table. They pull out this coat and as "Is this original?". I reply that it is not only original but wonderful! It had been in their family since the Civil War. The coat is simply fabulous. It is home made of the brown Jean Cloth that you often hear referred to as "Boar Brown" in color. It has such a classic look and it appears just as I saw it that first day except it was missing a couple of buttons that have been replaced using authentic originals of the same pattern. While the coat is home made, the buttons were imported from England. The buttons are the fine non-dug brass backed Civil War Confederate artillery coat buttons. On the front of the buttons it has the bold, proud letter "A" in block style that denotes the artillery branch of service. This is the tougher to find version that has the lined "A" front. They each have the original the brass back and shank intact on the reverse. On the reverse you can still clearly read the "SUPERIOR QUALITY" backmarks. This is the style listed as figure CSA203a3 in Tice's book and CS102A2 in Albert's button book. It has the six large buttons going down the front of the coat with the pair on the waist of the back side. When the family sold the coat it was sent to Civil War uniform expert, Les Jensen, for evaluation. Accompanying the coat is his 4 page report on the coat. He tells how it "... appears to be original in every respect, and is a rare survival of a general type of coat issued by the state of Georgia." This notation is important because the family thought that it belonged to one of two brothers who served from Georgia. They served with Company E of the 6th Georgia Infantry. One brother was wounded at Cold Harbor and the other brother was killed in action at the Battle of Sharpsburg. We can't say for sure which brother it belonged to so you are buying the coat and the association to the two heroes is a bonus. When you open the coat up, you see that it still retains the original lining with a fantastic ancient color. This piece is truly exceptional and is worthy of any top end collection or museum!
