Click on an image to enlarge
Cool! This is a neat and uncommon Grand Army of the Republic piece. This is a 9 inch by 6 inch chalk ware plaque with an image of marching soldiers and children waving. The bottom says: G.A.R. DES MOINES 1931.The reverse has a presentation from the Des Moines Public Schools to the Members of the Grand Army of the Republic at the annual encampment held in Des Moines, lowa September 13-17, 1931.Plaque was designed and modeled by Eugene Lundgren & Arlon Nelson of East High School who won the design competition. It is mounted on a thin red white and blue ribbon. It has been broken on the lower left side and period repaired. There is a name written in pencil on the reverse I cannot make out. A very cool piece!
