Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original War of 1812 period artillery cuff size button of the British Artillery. This is the pattern that is illustrated as figure Bra.i. on page 12 of the Don Troiani book on Revolutionary War buttons. He states that this pattern saw use from 1785 forward and the construction of this one would date it around the war of 1812 time frame. It has the sunken style Norman shield with the three cannon stacked up with three cannon balls at the top. This button is the 23mm version and it displays well from all angles as you can see. The original shank is intact on the reverse of the button. This is a great looking colonial period English Artillery coat button.
