Here is a nice looking original autographed letter of Confederate General Roger Atkinson Pryor (1828 - 1919). Pryor was born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia on July 19th 1828. Before the War, he was a lawyer and a staunch supporter of secession. He was a member of the Confederate Congress but resigned to serve as colonel of the 3rd Virginia Infantry. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier general from April 16th 1862. He served with the Army of Northern Virginia. On November 27th 1864, he was captured and held prisoner until spring of 1865. After the War, he went to New York where he rose to serve in the New York Supreme Court's appellate division. Pryor dies on March 14th 1919. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his
service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the
autograph is on a 1884 dated letter that is completely written in Pryor's hand. He wrote the letter from New York. The paper measures 5 inches by 8 inches in overall size. He writes "Very Respectfully / your Ob't Servnt / Roger A. Pryor". It is a fine piece of
history!
