This is a great looking weapon! It is an original and classic Civil War Sharps cavalry carbine. This is the model 1859 and it is still marked on the top of the barrel. It also has the Sharps Rifle Company maker mark and Hartford, Connecticut production location. The lockplate has the clear Sharps patent mark and dates. The action works well on both of the two positions. It has matching serial numbers of 61,438 which is well within the Civil War production ranges. The barrel is full-length and has the original rear sight intact and the front sight is present as well. When the hammer is cocked back, the block drops just as it should. The clip that holds the block in place is still present. It has the Sharps Rifle Company marking still visible as well as the Hartford, Connecticut production location. It is also marked "NEW MODEL 1859". These model 1859 Sharps are much tougher to find than their Model 1863 counterparts. The bore of the gun looks still has the lands and grooves still visible. The stock is an attractive grade walnut with a lightly used but never abused look. The shoulder stock is the model 1859 style that has the iron patchbox. All of the metal parts have a nice matching dark tone with a very attractive look all over. On the back side of the frame it has the original saddle ring and bar present. On the stock, under the bar, you can still see the outline of the inspector cartouches. These stamps are where the gun was approved for military service by the Government inspectors. This is a good looking and desirable Civil War 1859 model Sharps cavalry carbine that was used but not abused.
