This
is one of the most beautiful of all Confederate notes. It is an authentic 1861
dated Confederate States of America $5.00 note. This one was printed by the
American Bank Note Company in New Orleans but has the "Southern Bank Note Company" notation in the lower left-hand corner because it sounded better for the Confederate
Government. They are printed on high quality paper and used the red and black
in which gives the note a wonderful appearance. It has the Goddess Navigation
on the left-hand side. The scene in the center shows Commerce, Agriculture,
Justice, Liberty and Industry by the "5" denomination. On the right hand side
it has the likeness of President George Washington. This image copies the
statue of Washington that is in the capitol in Boston, Massachusetts. This is the version listed as T-31 in
Criswell's Confederate Currency book. It is correctly hand signed and dated. This note was professionally graded by the PMG Company and they rated it as being "Very Fine". The note comes in their acid free holder for
preservation.
