Here's a great CDV images that show the destruction that was brought upon Fort Moultrie in Charleston, South Carolina. Fort Moultrie is a series of fortifications on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, built to protect the city of Charleston, South Carolina. The first fort, formerly named Fort Sullivan, built of palmetto logs, inspired the flag and nickname of South Carolina, as "The Palmetto State". The fort was renamed for the U.S. patriot commander in the Battle of Sullivan's Island, General William Moultrie. During British occupation, in 1780–1782, the fort was known as Fort Arbuthnot. This image shows the stacks of cannonballs inside the fort looking out on the harbor. You can also see the tall flag pole with no flag. You can truly see the devastation of the fort that had suffered so many rounds of artillery. It has wonderful detail as you can see. On the back side of the card, it has the New Orleans printer's marking of L.L. Prince who was located on St. Charles St. This CDV measures 2-3/8ths inches by 3-1/2 inches in overall size. The CDV images are made by applying the thin image onto a paper backing to make it more durable. This is a great image of the famous Fort Moultrie in Charleston.
