This is a great looking belt plate from the 1880's. This one would have been worn by a member of the "5" 5th Regiment. The stamped brass plate has the number "5" made of nickel applied to the face of the plate. The overall size of the plate measures 83mm by 60mm. On the reverse of the plate you can see the base of the original attachment loop and keeper hook. It also has the small pieces of wood that hold the letter onto the face of the plate. This is a regimental number marked variant of the style plate that is shown as Plate #894 on Page 529. They state that these plates were worn circa 1880 until about 1920. This is a great piece all the way around.
