Nicely Priced Dug Coat Size Alabama Volunteer Corps AVC Button
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a scarce coat size Civil War uniform button from the state of Alabama. This one would have been proudly worn by a member of the Alabama Volunteer Corps and it has the "AVC" letting at the top of the button stating that fact. It has the droop wing style eagle in the center of the button. The face has the push to the center but you can still see the "AVC" lettering at the top because of the original gold gilding. In fine shape these buttons are many times the price we have on this one. On the back of the button it has the back present but the original shank has been lost to the ages. On the reverse, you can see the traces of the Halfmann & Taylor backmark. This is the style listed as figure AB3 in Albert's button book and AB214 in Tice's button book. If you have wanted a real Alabama Volunteer Corps button that doesn't cost several hundred dollars then this one is for you.
