This is a nice original musician's pattern sword from the Civil War. On the base of the front of the blade is the date of "1864" as well as the "US" mark and the inspector initials of "G.K.C.". These are the initials of George K. Charter who approved the sword for military use by the Ordnance Department. There was no other reason one of these swords would have been made in 1864 except to go straight to the Civil War. On the back of the blade is the scroll style maker's mark of the famous "AMES MFG. CO. CHICOPEE, MASS". Ames was the premiere maker of edged weapons for the Union army during the Civil War. The blade has a good looking lighter color with a pretty look. The guard, grip and pommel cap are present with an attractive tone to the brass with a copper tone. The sword is accompanied by an original brass and steel scabbard, which is the version made by Emerson & Silver of Trenton, New Jersey. The scabbard has the original throat and drag intact. On the drag it has the "D.F.M." inspectors initials of Dexter F. Mossman still visible. This is your chance at a good looking Civil War musician's sword in scabbard with a Civil War production date.
