This is a cool looking excavated belt buckle. This is the classic style that was worn by the regular fighting men of the Civil War. This is the version that has the puppy paw style belt attachment hooks on the reverse. This one still has all three of the original hooks intact and in weathered shape. This one is in nice excavated condition with the nicks along the edge and some of the lead being lost off of the back. It has the majority of the original lead. The brass face of the plate has a crystal clear and bold "US" lettering. This buckle is accompanied by the verbal history that it was recovered in Readyville, Tennessee. This is a small area outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, site of the Battle of Stones River. This is a nice excavated Civil War belt buckle from Tennessee.
