Baker & McKinney Made Civil War Capbox for a Musket, Rifle or Pistol
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very solid original Civil War soldier's percussion capbox with a wonderful alteration so the soldier could keep on using it. These leather boxes were used by the soldiers to carry the percussion caps for the rifles, carbines and pistols. This is a fine box with both of the original belt loops on the back and they are nice enough to use today. It has the brass finial intact. The original outer flap is present and in nice shape and you can tell by the wear that the soldier used it quite a bit. The inner flap has the maker mark from the Baker & McKinney firm in New York still present. When you open up the inner flap you see that the lamb's wool was removed to make the caps easier to get to. This is a very attractive original Civil War soldier's percussion cap box by Baker & McKinney.
