This is a group of 5 original metallic cartridges for the 12mm pinfire revolver. These were one of the most reliable weapons of the Civil War era. They were designed with a pin in the bottom of the cartridge. When the hammer of the revolver strikes the pin it drives the pin against the fulminate inside a percussion cap contained inside of the cartridge base. This detonates the cartridge and fires the bullet. This fine original cartridges in fine non-excavated condition and you can even read the "BB 12" maker's mark on the bottom of the cartridge. This is the maker marking of the Braun & Bloem firm in Dusseldorf, Germany. They were one of the high quality cartridges makers and they started their partnership in 1850. The cartridges are accompanied by the original tin that they left the factory in. The tin is in great displaying condition.
