This is a tougher to find Confederate shell. It is the Long pattern of the 20# version of the Confederate cannon shell. You often see this style listed as a Read-Parrott which is basically a Southern copy of a Yankee Parrott shell. It is the version that is illustrated and pictured on page 280 of the 1993 edition of the Dickey & George Artillery book. They list this pattern as a "Tredegar" pattern which is the arsenal in Richmond, Virginia. . This one would have utilized the wooden time fuse holder at the top. At the bottom of the shell it has the entire iron sabot present. It has been very nicely cleaned and coated for display and preservation. If you notice this is the version that they call the "sleeved" by the way the nose section has a very distinct line where it meets the body of the shell. This shell was reportedly recovered in the area of Petersburg, Virginia. This is a good looking and tough to find Confederate cannon shell.
