Nice Reconstructed Canister Round for the 12 Pound Howitzer Cannon
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very fine looking canister round for a 12 pound Civil War howitzer cannon. This 4.62 inch projectile was one of the most important weapons used by the Confederate Army during the Battle of Shiloh. We know that it is for the howitzer because they were made up using 48 balls instead of the normal cannon canister that used 27 balls. This one is made up of all original parts except for the top plate and the handle shaped wire on the top, which is a modern replacement but looks nice on the piece. These parts were excavated legally from private property in the Shiloh area several years ago. It displays well as you can see.
