Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very cool excavated weapon. This piece started out life as a as a bayonet from a musket. By the width of the base of the blade, it would have been very early in production, definitely before the Civil War. It measures 19 inches in overall size with the blade making up 15 of those inches. The took off the socket from the blade and made a round piece that would allow the pike base to be inserted. This piece would have made a fierce weapon for a pike or a boarding spear. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that it was excavated in the area of Mobile, Alabama. It has the metal loss from the years in the ground but has been cleaned for preservation.
