Very Rare Excavated Civil War Cannon Worm for a 3.67 Inch Cannon
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an amazing excavated piece of artillery history. This is the piece that is known to collectors as a Cannon "worm". This was the tool that would have been used to remove a cannon shell from the cannon barrel in the event of a misfire. It was basically a very large corkscrew to catch on to the end of the artillery projectile in the barrel. This is a hand forged Confederate cannon worm that has spent the last several years in a collection in Georgia. Originally it would have had a long wooden shaft and you can see a small section of the wood. This one is the correct size to have been used with a 3.67 inch bore diameter cannon better known as a 6 pounder cannon. The piece measures 12-1/2 inches in overall length. In our 35 years plus of dealing in Civil War memorabilia, this is less than a dozen of these that we have been able to offer. Don't miss this opportunity.
