Here is a scarce revolver that you seldom see offered for sale. It is the Perrin Pattern revolver. This is one of the more exotic revolvers that were imported for use at the outbreak of the Civil War. They are a six shot double action revolver that fires the 12mm cartridge that is unique in design. Research shows that approximately 550 of these revolvers (of a contract for 1,0000) were delivered to the US Government by arms speculator Alexis Godillot at a price of $20.00 each. Godillot made his delivered 350 Perrin's on January 6, 1862, another 100 on March 28, 1862 and the last 100 that he could provide on May 31, 1862. On May 31 he also delivered 1,500 Lefaucheux pin fire revolvers, and no further deliveries of Perrin's are noted. This one is within the serial number range that are believed to have been among one of these shipments. The gun itself has a nice silver gray tone all over. This is one of the Perrin revolvers that were plated and this one retains the vast majority of the plating on the metal.On the side of the frame it is marked "PERRIN & Cie Bvt" and on the other side it has the serial number of #783. The action of the mechanics work superbly on all positions. The loading gate present on the frame and works as it should. On the handle of the gun it has the original 1-piece wooden grip intact and it is the version that is made without the checkering which is less common to find. On the bottom of the grip it has the original small size lanyard ring present and in fine shape. This is a nice looking gun of a very scarce style that will make a tough addition to your Civil War firearms collection.
