Here is a nice piece to add to your Civil War military rifle. This is the classic white buffalo leather and brass sling that went on the U.S. model 1855, 1861 or 1865 military rifles. It would be correct for a Springfield rifle or any rifle made by one of the government contract maker made rifles. The leather is still pliable including the sewn on loop on the end that is is still present after the years. The brass adjuster hook is still present on the other end but as you can see, the hook is missing the end. It has the original maker's stamp of the firm of S.H. Young of Newark, New Jersey still visible on the leather. It also has the oval stamping where it was approved for military use by the sub-inspector of the U.S. Ordnance Department, R. White. These are tough to find and this one is quite nice.
