11th Texas Infantry Infantry Appraisal Letter for His Rifle and Sidearm
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a neat document from Confederate Texas. This is a pre-printed piece of paper with the blanks filled in using ancient ink. The paper measures 7 inches by 6-1/2 inches in overall size. It was issued by the Board of Appraisers for Company B of the 11th Texas Infantry for property belonging to A.B. Mabry, including a percussion rifle valued at $20.00, and a side arm valued at $3.50. The folks at CivilWarData.Com have the private listed as A.E. Mabra. They state that he enlisted on 3/1/1862 as a Private. On 3/1/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. TX 11th Infantry. The paper is undated and is signed by A.H. Johnson, Captain Company B; and Colonel Oran Milo Roberts, among others. The 11th Texas served in the Trans-Mississippi Department and was present at the Battles of Milliken's Bend, Bayou Bourbeux, Mansfield, Pleasant Hill and Jenkins' Ferry. What a cool document and it makes you wonder what kind of rifle and sidearm he was fighting with.
