Fine Looking Socket Bayonet For the Indian War Era Springfield Trapdoor Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a nice original socket bayonet for the .45-70 Springfield trapdoor rifle. This bayonet is made after the Civil War for the trapdoor breech Springfield rifle. It looks almost identical to the Civil War Springfield bayonet except the diameter of the socket is smaller because of the smaller caliber of the rifle barrel. This one has a full-length blade is made with the "US" stamp at the base. The socket has the lockring and screw present and is working. It still has the original bluing intact on the metal. It is accompanied by the metallic body scabbard that has the brass US rosette present at the top of the scabbard. This is the version that has the leather belt loop instead of the belt hook. The leather has stiffened but it still displays well. This is an attractive Indian Wars era Springfield trapdoor rifle bayonet for the price.
