GREAT SCENE! Confederate 1861 "Sweet Potato Dinner" $10 Bill
Click on an image to enlarge
This is one of my favorite Confederate notes. It is an authentic 1861 dated Confederate States of America $10.00 with the "Sweet Potato" scene in the center. This is depicted from the Revolutionary War dinner served to British General Gates. When served a dinner by U.S. General Francis Marion that included sweet potatoes Gates sent a letter back to England that stated. "We'll never get them to surrender as they live on tree roots in the swamps. " This depiction was bold statement to have put on a Confederate note. This is the version listed as T-30 in Criswell's Confederate Currency book. It is correctly hand signed and dated. The note is in nice circulated condition that displays well. The note comes in an acid free holder for preservation.
