PUBLISHED! Private Purchase Brass Spur With Strap Adjuster Intact
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very fine non-excavated cavalry spur. This is a variant of the spurs that are pictured and described on page 120 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how these are spurs that would have been privately purchased by an officer and how they are like those from colonial times to the Civil War era. He states that this pattern could have been the inspiration for the U.S. Model 188 spur because of the rowel and neck design. They are made of brass with a pleasing color. On the ends of the spur legs, it has the stud style buttons instead of the strap loops. The spur still has the original metal buckle for adjusting the leather boot strap which is still present but has been repaired as you see in the images. The spur is in beautiful non-excavated condition. It still has the original rowel intact. This is a great looking spur!
