These are neat little guns. These small single shot pistols were made by the Brown Manufacturing Company of Newburyport, Massachusetts. They made them from 1866 until 1873 and only made about 16,500. Across the top of the 2-1/2 inch barrel it still has the "SOUTHERNER" marking still visible. These with this marking were made from 1866 until 1869 according to Flayderman. The barrel turns out to the side when you have the hammer cocked back for loading. The action catches and it has the original shell extractor intact. This is the version that is constructed using a brass frame. According to Flayderman, it is estimated that 70 percent of the production were constructed using brass. On the handle of the gun it has the 2-piece walnut wood grips intact. On the underside of the barrel as well as the bottom of the grip strap, it has the serial number of 7,915 still visible. This is a neat gun from the 1860's for your collection.
