This is an original coat size Confederate staff officer's button. This is the Confederate manufactured style listed by Albert as CS22 and in Tice's book it is listed as figure CS257a1. The face of this button has a very attractive dark color patina with nice detail as you can see. The original brass back is present with original brass wire shank is present on the back of the button. The verbal history that accompanied this button was recovered in Grenada, Mississippi. During the winter of 1862 more than 22,000 Confederate Troops were stationed in and around Grenada, Mississippi. This is a good looking excavated Civil War Confederate staff officer's coat button.
