1862 C.S. Bond With Postmaster Reagan Image Serial Number 76
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very nice authentic 1862 dated Confederate States of America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate Congress on August 19th 1861 in the $50 denomination. It is the style that has the Confederate Postmaster General J.H. Reagan in the center of the top. In the center of the bond top portion it has the image of a guard dog sleeping beside the treasury safes. This one has the correct number of 15 of the original coupons attached at the bottom. When the date arrived that is printed on the bottom of the coupon you could cash it in for your interest payment. It is correctly hand signed and numbered by the Confederate Government officials in fine brown ink. One neat thing about this bond is that it is serial numbered "76". When do you ever get a chance at a bond with a serial number that low? This one is signed by the register of the Confederate Treasury Robert Tyler. Tyler was the son of the 10th President of the United States John Tyler. This always makes a neat thing to point out when you show the bond to your friends. This is the Confederate bond listed as CR-18 in the Criswell bond book and a B71 in the Ball Bond Book. There were only 1,110 of this pattern of bond ever issued with a rarity of 7 out of 10. This is a very attractive original Confederate states savings bond.
