Authentic Memphis Style Confederate Officer's Sword
Click on an image to enlarge
This is one is a cool Confederate sword. This is the pattern that is a foot officer's sword of the Leech and Rigdon style. They are one of the most distinctive swords that you will encounter. They have the standard floral style hand guard that is design for a lower ranking Confederate officer and it is referred to as a foot officer sword. As you can see the floral pattern on both sides of the basket guard. Some people say they were made by James Conning of Mobile, Alabama but my opinion is that it is a Leech product. The pommel cap is intact and it has the floral pattern that was used for the officer pattern swords. On the handle of this sword it has the original 1-piece wooden grip with the ancient single strand brass wire and the leather has been lost to the ages. The blade is full-length at 31-1/2 inches and has the classic single unstopped fuller going down each side. The spine of the sword has the rounded top which is another trait attributed to Leech on these swords. The scabbard on these swords were made of leather and brass. The scabbard is missing as is so often the case. This is a great looking original Confederate staff & field officer sword for the price.
