Here is an amazing looking piece. This is an original Artillery Uniform From the the 1830's Era. This coat would have been worn by a soldier serving in the Artillery branch of service. We know this because of the red piping on the coat as well as the 20 coat size artillery eagle buttons. The bottom two buttons are black cloth covered buttons because they would have been covered by the soldier's sash and belt. The buttons are in beautiful non-excavated 1-piece buttons that would date from the 1830's. They are marked "FINE ORANGE GILT" on the reverse of each button. The cuffs of the coat each have three cuff size artillery officer buttons. We know that this coat was for an officer because of the officer eagle buttons as well as the design of the shoulder epaulets. As you can see the wonderful set of original shoulder epaulets have the artillery officer eagle button as well as the applied "3" with the red background denoting the 3rd regiment of artillery. They also have the pair of bars that denote the rank of Captain. The color of the coat is still a rich blue color with some small spots of old mothing. It has the correct early style collar that is very tall. It has the golden tone and red trim still nicely intact. On the back of the coat it still retains the ordnance style bomb insignia on the bottoms of the swallowtails. When you open the coat up, you are greeted by the majority of the original lining including the lining in the sleeves with the wear form the ages. This is a wonderful displaying coat original United States artillery coat that is almost 200 years old.
