Original C.S. 1862 $100 Savings Bond With Robert Hunter Image CR29
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very fine original Confederate States of America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate Congress of August 19th 1861 in the $100 denomination. The scene in the center has the likeness of Robert Hunter who served as Confederate Secretary of State and a C.S. Senator. Before the War he was a U.S. Congressman and Senator from Virginia. The view shows Hunter in his usual "strictly business" manner. It still has 12 of the original interest coupons present at the bottom. At certain dates the coupons could be cashed in to receive your interest from the bond. The bond is correctly hand signed and numbered in fine old brown ink. This is the style listed as 54 in the Confederate bond book by Ball and as CR-29 in the Criswell Bond Book. The Confederate Government issued 8,884 of these bonds and this one is numbered "6450" in ink. This one will make a nice addition for any collection and will look beautiful when you frame it up for your wall. It measures approximately 13-3/4th inches by 14 inches in size.
