Beautiful Non-Excavated CS42 Confederate Staff Officer Button
Click on an image to enlarge
This is one of my favorite Confederate buttons of all time. It is the version of Confederate staff officer that is listed as CS42 in Albert's button book and CS290A1 in Tice's book. It is the large 25mm button that is designed to look like a 3 piece staff button but is really a 2-piece button. It has the large droop wing eagle on the pedestal with a lined background and stars around the edge. This one is in spectacular non-excavated condition. The original back and shank are intact. In Tice's book he states that it is believed that the firm of Wildt & Kline of Columbus, South Carolina made these scarce buttons. This is a very pretty and very scarce version non-excavated Confederate staff officer's coat button.
