Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a nice large group of pieces that were used on the tarred canvas knapsacks from the Civil War. These are the brass pieces that held the straps, closure tabs and strap length adjusters. There are 25 of the brass "J" hooks, 15 of the triangles, 10 of the double twist hooks and 11 of the length studs. There are also a couple of other small pieces. The verbal history that accompanied these pieces is that they were found in the 1960's in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia area. Chancellorsville was a battle between the Confederate forces of Robert E. Lee and Union General Joseph Hooker on April 30th until May 6, 1863. You get the entire lot for only $145, and that is less than $2.50 for each piece.
