Very Cool Excavated .44 Caliber Colt Revolver Made in 1863
Click on an image to enlarge
Here's a very cool excavated artifact. This is the classic model 1860 colt revolver in the .44 caliber bore size. This is the style that was used by soldiers and civilians on both sides of the Civil War when they could get one. This one has serial number of what appears to be 129,049, still visible on the triggerguard and other parts. Thanks to Mr. colt's bookkeepers we know that this serial number would've been made in 1863. Many of the guns from this time frame or used during the Civil War with some of them being lost like this one. As you can see the metal of the gun is pitted all over with a fine look If you notice the mainspring is broken at the top which likely would be why it was discarded. It appears complete including the loading assembly. For the last several decades, this spear has been in the collection of Mr. Glenn Mattox of Post Falls, Idaho. Mr. Mattox passed and I was able to get this pistol that he would NEVER sell me. I have enjoyed it and now it can be part of your collection. This is a great excavated artifact that I wish to talk.
