It measures 11 inches in overall length with the barrel making up 7 of those inches. The top of the barrel has the small brass inlay "London" mark still clearly visible at the breech. As you see, the barrel is constructed with the Damascus pattern to the metal. Engraved long the top of the barrel is the "Hyde & Goodrich New Orleans" retailer marking. This is the famous New Orleans, Louisiana firm of Hyde & Goodrich. This well-known Crescent City retailer went into business as early as 1816.They sold all types of high end materials until the business was dissolved in July of 1861. They are best known for their backmarks showing up on Southern used Civil War buttons including those from Texas, Mississippi and of course Louisiana. They also sold swords and high-end weapons. The back action style lockplate has the maker mark of the famous company "Van Wart Son" engraved into the metal. Van Wart sold many quality pieces like this and also uniform buttons and other military items. They are best known for selling Confederate Uniform buttons including Confederate uniform buttons for Engineer and Rifleman as well as Buttons for the Carolinas and Georgia. The action catches on both positions. The ramrod is made with a wooden body and a silver end cap. The stock of the gun has a nice dark tone to the wood with the hand checkering at the wrist. It has the silver furniture that includes the ramrod guide, nose cap, barrel pin covers triggerguard and grip cap ornament intact. On the back side of the gun, it has the belt hook intact so it could be carried on a belt without using a holster. This is a nice looking authentic Deringer style pistol with the very desirable Hyde & Goodrich of New Orleans retailer mark.
