Gaylord Maker Marked Civil War Pistol Cartridge Box
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great looking original leather cartridge box for the Civil War era revolver. This is the classic military pattern worn by soldiers throughout the Civil War that will look correct when it is displayed with any style of Civil War revolver. It still has the outer flap intact as well as the closure tab and brass finial on the bottom of the box. On the underside of the outer flap, it has a name stenciled but I can't make it out. On the back side of the box it has both of the original leather loops where the belt would have went through at one time. Between the belt loops is the fine Civil War maker mark of the Emerson Gaylord Company of ' Chicopee, Massachusetts. Gaylord made some of the highest quality accoutrements during the Civil War. The leather on this one has a great color with the leather being the untouched black color. You can tell that the soldier used this one but never abused it.
