SILVERED! Rare Bellenot of New Orleans Made Louisiana State Seal
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a rare version of Confederate manufactured coat size uniform button from the state of Louisiana. This is an excavated button from Louisiana. The front of the button has the mother pelican feeding her young, which is the state seal of the great state of Louisiana. The face has a nice maroon tone to the brass with a clear pelican. There is a superb amount of the original silver wash remaining to the face of the button that gives it a fine look. The silvered version of these buttons are exceptionally rare. I have only had a couple of them in my 30+ years in the business. This is the tough to find version that was made by C. Bellenot of New Orleans. You can still see that the back still has some of the original silver hanging on. The shank is lost with the ages. These are listed as LA8 in Albert's button book and as LA249B1 in Tice's book. It is purely 100% Confederate in use and manufacture. This is a fine displaying original Confederate made Civil War Louisiana coat button with the scarce silver wash.
