This is one of the neatest group of excavated pieces you will find. It is an original unfinished cylinder for a Confederate revolver. This is the style that was going to be used in a Confederate revolver made by Griswold and Gunnison. The village of Griswoldville grew around the factory. In 1862, Griswold produced pikes for volunteers from the state of Georgia. The factory soon began producing revolvers for the Confederacy. No other Confederate factory produced more revolvers than Griswold & Gunnison. Griswoldville was the first town burned by Sherman's troops on his march to the sea. They made their revolvers at a converted cotton gin with a couple of overseers and 22 slaves. As they were about to be captured, they evacuated the gin they left many of the unfinished pieces. These pieces were found years ago by a metal detector and it make a very wonderful piece to show your friends. They hand cut the hammer out of a blank piece of wrought iron and we have the remnants of the iron around the hammer. We also have what would have eventually been a trigger. There is an unfinished iron cylinder that wasn't even drilled for the chambers. There is also a small hammerhead that they would have used to craft the pieces. You get all four of these cool pieces for $795.00. That's the price of a dug Confederate frame buckle but 100 times cooler!
