This is a very nice original 4 inch barrel length version .31 caliber Colt revolver. This is the classic model 1849 Colt that is known to collectors as the "Pocket" Model colt. They get this nickname because they look pocket size compared to the .44 caliber Dragoon model of the day. It has all matching serial numbers, including the wedge, of 188,069 which was made in 1861. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have a great look to the brass. There is an excellent amount of the original silver wash hanging on to the brass. It has a fine action on all positions. The original 1-piece walnut wood grips are very fine attractive shape with almost all of the original varnish intact. The cylinder retains about 90%+ of the stagecoach holdup scene still visible. The top of the barrel has a crystal clear single line Samuel Colt maker's mark and New York City location. These guns were made in Hartford, Connecticut with the sales office being located in New York City. The Colt's Patent mark is visible on both the frame and the cylinder to go along with the barrel markings. The frame still retains some of the case colors and there is some nice factory bluing on the barrel. This is a very nice original Civil War production .31 caliber Colt revolver that is a step or two above the ones you usually encounter.
