Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a fine excavated cavalry spur. This is one of the spurs that is similar to the ones pictured and described on page 98 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a spur of the style that is usually known as the "Angled Neck" spur. They get this nickname because they are produced with the flat sided angled rowel neck. This is a fine looking spur! This is the excavated style that is reportedly Northern in manufacture. The spur is completely unmarked and is the style that was worn by cavalry enlisted during the Civil War. It has the original rowel missing from the rooster style neck. On the back of the spur legs it has the rectangular style strap loops holes. The spur is in fine excavated condition for its age. This is a great looking spur from all angles!
