This is a nice looking original Civil War era cavalry saber in scabbard. This is the model 1860 pattern that was the most carried style during the Civil War. This one has a full-length blade with a dark gray color to the steel with a nice look. At the base of the front of the blade are the production date of 1865 along with the "US" mark and the inspector initials of "A.G.M.". On the back of the blade is the maker's mark of the C. Roby Company of West Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Christopher Roby was one of the premier makers of Civil War cavalry saber and as you can see they made a quality product. The guard and pommel cap have a great dark color to the brass. The leather grip is original with a fine look. The leather and the double strand brass wire have been restored in modern times and now they display well. The sword is accompanied by a modern made REPRODUCTION metal scabbard. This scabbard has the mounts, rings intact as well as the original drag and throat. It displays well with the sword as you can see. You are buying the sword and the scabbard is a free bonus. This is a nice solid Civil War era cavalry saber that will make a solid addition to your collection.
