Benjamin Butler & "Contraband" Colorful Patriotic Postal Cover
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original Civil War patriotic envelope cover. This one has the cool cartoon scene on the left hand side of the cover. The scene shows Union General Benjamin "Beast" Butler protecting one of the former slaves from a Southerner comin g to take them back. The former slaves that flocked to the Union camps were referred to as "Contraband". This is a neat image because Butler was in charge of the "Contraband" camps. It has pretty red and blue ink. This cover was never mailed and is in nice condition with some age and it comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
