Rare Novelty Rubber Company Sharpshooter's Coat Button GI95
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a rare button! It is the original Civil War 20mm coat button that was worn by the sharpshooters including the famous Berdan's Sharpshooter. They are very distinct because they are made of molded hard rubber with an embedded wire shank. On the back of the button it has the maker's mark of "NOVELTY RUBBER CO." in the depressed channel. This style is a good bit tougher to get then the one with the standard Goodyear backmark which is scarce in its own right. The face of the button has the general service style eagle but when you pick them up they are light as a feather. This is the pattern listed as GI95 in Albert's button book and SS215b in Tice's button book. Don't miss this one cause you might not get a chance at another any time soon.
