Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a great looking piece. This is an original Civil War era spur. This is one of the exact spurs that is pictured and described on page 118 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a spur of the style that is referred to as a private purchased spur because many different variations were sold to the well to do soldiers. He also notes that this style could date from before, during or after the War and it is priced accordingly. It is one of the finely crafted spur that is made of steel. It has the flowing body curves with the original strap loops on the back. It has the deep curve to the neck and even has the original iron rowel intact. On the inside of the spur, it is stamped by the maker "JA WROUGHT" in block style letters. It is a fine looking spur from all angles.
