VMM BUCKLE! CDV Image of a Union Soldier with Maine Buckle and Pistol
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the Union soldier in his uniform. He is wearing his shell sack military coat with the 4 buttons going down the fronts. On his head he is sporting the forage style military hat. Around his waist, he has on his belt and buckle and on the side he has his holster and you an see the bottom of the Colt style pistol grip peeking out. What makes it so special is that the belt buckle is the small pattern with the "VMM" lettering on the front. These were worn by the members of the Volunteer Maine Militia. This is a rare buckle and seeing one in an image is a rare thing! The back of the card stock is unmarked as they so often are. This is a fine looking original CDV image of an armed Union soldier from Maine in uniform.
