This is a great looking sword! This is an attractive original 1862 dated Civil War Artillery saber and scabbard. This one has a fine full-length blade with nice date at the base. The front of the blade has the rare "CONN" mark that lets us know that it was one of the ones that were sent to the state of Connecticut. This is a scarce to find marking as they only supplied a limited number to that state. Since it went to a state contract it has no inspector marks on the pommel cap or blade. You can also clearly see on the base of the blade the stamped "1862" Production date. On the back side of the blade it has the scroll style maker's mark of "AMES MFg. CHICOPEE MASS." Ames was the premiere maker of these artillery sabers during the Civil War. The original guard and pommel cap are present and have a pretty color to the brass. On the handle of the sword, the leather grip is original to the sword. The double twisted brass wire is original and it has a very nice look. The sword is accompanied by an original metal scabbard with both mounts intact as well as the throat at the top. This is a great looking Civil War artillery saber with scabbard and it has a nice early Civil War production date and state of Connecticut marking.
