This is a fine looking original excavated coat size Confederate cavalry button. This is the style listed as CS127 in Albert's book and CSC203a4 in Tice's Book. These are referred to by collectors as the "Lined C" because the block style "C" on the face of the button has lines across it. It has fine detail to the face of the button with the "C' showing up very clearly. On the reverse of the button it has the original back and shank intact. This is the version that that has the unmarked back so it could be sold by any retailer without advertising for the actual maker. It is believed that the actual maker was probably Smith, Kemp & Wright. The verbal history that accompanied the button is that it was found in North Georgia. This is a great looking Confederate cavalry button that is nice enough for any collection.
