This is a nice and 100% authentic 1862 dated Confederate States of America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate Congress on August 19th 1861 in the $500 denomination. It is the style that has the likeness of Thomas Watts at the top of the bond. Watts served as Colonel of the 17th Alabama until he served as Confederate Attorney General from March through October of 1862. When he was elected as Governor of Confederate Alabama he resigned and served in that role until the end of the War. This one has 29 of the original coupons attached at the bottom. When the date arrived that is printed on the bottom of the coupon you could cash it in for your interest payment. At the bottom edge of the top portion you can see the printer's mark from the firm of B. Duncan of Columbia, South Carolina. It is correctly hand signed and numbered by the Confederate Government officials in fine brown ink. This one is signed by the register of the Confederate Treasury Robert Tyler. Tyler was the son of the 10th President of the United States John Tyler. This is the Confederate bond listed as CR-72 in the bond book by Criswell and as #120 in the Ball book on Confederate Bonds. There were 2,576 of the bonds of this pattern issued and this one has the serial number of 124. The bond displays quite well. This is a very attractive original Confederate states savings bond.
